I really want to get out of this rut in life. I really need some help. Has anyone else battled depression that can maybe help? Maybe we can help each other.

All right, let's see. I've been in and out of ruts (or maybe I haven't been out of them fully yet), so I might be able to provide some advice.
The first thing I can say is that it takes a strong amount of discipline, great respect for yourself and awareness of the situation. Like you, I find it incredibly hard to change a habit, but you have to force yourself if you want to get a better life. I can tell the difference between failure and success and the fooling that your own mind does to you because last year at Newyears I promised myself things that I ended up not doing or achieving at all for an entire year. I was quite disappointed in myself. Now, this year, I'm finally taking the steps to improve my life. A small example: going to the gym regularly and never quitting. It's hard, it's urgh, but I'll do it even if I don't feel like it. I need to get somewhere.
Let's apply the management principles:
1) What situation am I in? What is the rut about? 2) Where do I want to be? Future desires, plans. 3) How do I get there? Actions to take.
For me, it was:
1) I'm currently working a job. It's not bad, it's not great, but it pays the bills and allows me for a decent amount of comfort.
2) I want to make enough income on the side so that I can eventually live life without working and retire early.
3) I will need creative, alternative sources of income. 3.1) Look up on the internet in what ways I can make money. 3.2) If these methods require learning a trade, then learn the trade.
And so I'm working on 3.2 - learning the trade skills. If I want to make side money by selling my art in the form of drawings or photography, I will have to be distinguishable enough first so that people will want to buy my art - and that takes learning, time and perfection, but it definitely takes time.
Try to apply these 3 steps to your problem. Also, watch this motivational video:
