@Mikemcneil Actually I've read that it's unwise to try and do deep breathing when you have a panic attack. While it's conventional wisdom for when you are nervous or just being panicky, when you have an actual panic attack, shallow, quick breaths help better. If I remember right, this was because your body is doing it's best to return to normalcy, and the breathing quicker helps in managing certain things internally. When you try on purpose to breathe deep against your body's attempts, it actually prolongs the recovery time and might make the sensation of the attack worse.
