I Am Depressed

When looks are gone what is left? Everyone around you will eventually leave. Everything will fall apart and crash down around you. I've seen it happen. Someone is born lucky and as their looks fade so does the world around them. People leave them, nobody really wants to be around them anymore and bit by bit piece by piece everything is taken away.

The same is going to happen to me too. It already is. I'm not getting any younger, I am fading. When my light completely dies out I won't have anything left. Everyone that used to want to talk to me or be my friend will leave. Doors will be slammed in my face. Opportunities will shrivel up and die before me. I don't like my future. I won't have anything left. I'm not intelligent, I'm not talented at much of anything, I'm not funny or remotely interesting. Without anything else to lean back on or to help me I don't see happiness down the line. I will die alone an old hag.

I was born in chains but I was taken out of Egypt
I was bound to a burden, but the burden it was raised
Lord I can no longer keep this secret
Blessed is the name, the name be praised
I fled to the edge of a mighty sea of sorrow
Pursued by the riders of a cruel and dark regime
But the waters parted and my soul crossed over
Out of Egypt, out of Pharaoh’s dream
Word of words and the measure of all measures
Blessed is the name, the name be blessed
Written on my heart in burning letters
That’s all I know, I cannot read the rest
I was idled with my soul, when I heard that you could use me
I followed very closely, but my life remained the same
But then you showed me where you had been wounded
In every atom broken is a name
I was alone on the road, your love was so confusing
All my teachers told me I had myself to blame
But in the grip of sensual illusion
The sweet unknowing unifies a name
Word of words, and the measure of all measures
Blessed is the name, the name be blessed
Written on my heart in burning letters
That’s all I know, I cannot read the rest
I've heard the soul unfolds in the chambers of its longing
And the bitter liquor sweetens in the amber cup
But all the ladders of the night have fallen
Only darkness now, to lift the longing up
Word of words and measure of all measures
Blessed is the name, the name be blessed
Written on my heart in burning letters
That’s all I know, I cannot read the rest

- Leonard Cohen. He made on to an elderly age, the once poet/musician known for writing 'music to slit your wrist to'. Maybe it's about finding influence, in yourself, or others, that make you love life?

I recall that mother Teresa was not particularly beautiful yet they composose pictures in memory of her. Perhaps it was because she focused on helping others. If you can find a purpose that is greater than yourself, or several of them, you will find solace.
