I Battle Depression

If taking care of oneself is selfish, then I am guilty. I spent the first part of this week car pooling with a "negative Nelly". I teach her special education students, so she is in and out of my classroom. Earlier this week she was very disrespectful towards me in front of my students no less. I told her Wednesday that I had afterschool activities the rest of the week and I will drive myself. She was so upset with me and called me selfish. With my depression, I often forget to take of my mental health. I decided on Wednesday that I needed to take care of me. If that is selfish then I am guilty. As I told a close friend... ask me if I care! This is about my health, and what I need to do so I can take care of my students.

Thanks for reading. Hugs to all!!

The fact she's publicly disrespect you and jump to abuse the first time her needs aren't met (disregarding yours) is a bad sign. You do need to care for yourself. The anger of selfish people at being 'twarted' is no more advanced than that of a two year old. 'All about me' and not even recognising cleverer ways to still get what they want. I hope you feel a difference soon and your depression lifts.

@SW-User Thank you!

NOT selfish. As they tell you on airplanes, always put your mask on first. You can't help anyone else if you have nothing to give. Your first priority should be yourself. ( This is from someone who has never put herself first.) Please never feel guilty about treating yourself.

@SW-User I don't normally put myself first, but when my students noticed the disrespect it was a different story. Thank you!

@blondie47 You deserve as much care and attention as your students do. Never forget that.

Do what you need to do. You have to set boundaries sometimes, in order to protect your mental health and also command the respect you deserve. Never feel guilty for that. Good luck!
