I always though you could only be born with only one or the other as opposed to
both at the same time on account of the fact they're both different from each other.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't having both at the same time cause them to cancel each other out?

@Sidewinder that’s what my son’s doctor used to say when he was really little.. that they sort of balance one another. But now that he’s older.. nope.. both are very apparent

Autism is a spectrum disorder.
It is diagnosed from a specturm of traits, and their intensity.
Present with enough diversity of those traits, with enough intensity, and you are considered autistic.
There are different degrees of autism from severe to high functioning.
Adhd is also a spectrum disorder.
Now adhd and autism do have an overlap of symptoms, but are different in their own way.
So yes, someone can be both autistic and adhd if they present with strong enough symptoms of both.
Its not a common diagnosis though, because it can take years and dedication, (not to mention the cost), of seeing specialists to finally perhaps be diagnosed.
