Have you ever been accused of lacking empathy and being rude?
I have a couple times. This one girl I knew from high school, she was upset about something and I was very uncomfortable with comforting (not that I don’t care). I told her there’s no use crying over spilled milk. You’ll get over it. Angrily, she told me off saying, “Is that all you have to say? When it comes to empathy, you suck at it!”
It wasn’t that I didn’t care, I just don’t show it too well. I explained to her about a death I had in the family.
I told told, “I’m Sorry that happened. It doesn’t change how I feel about you. You’re odd as sh*t.”
I said, “Let’s just say I feel the same way about you.”
We didn’t get along at first but we warmed up to each other and we’re best friends. We’ve been friends since sophomore year. She’s a sweetheart but she will get ugly and tell you off when she’s disrespected.
