Does anyone here have experience with ADHD? What advice would you give to someone dealing with it?

My girlfriend just got diagnosed with it a few days ago and she's pretty bummed out. I wish I could be more supportive, but I literally have no idea what could help

It’s a badge of honor, really.

A diagnosis should be considered a release of sorts. Now all the things that made no sense still make no sense but it gives her ground to stand on and begin anew.

ADHD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

All it really means is that she doesn’t see things the way most people do. She doesn’t adhere well to the confining boxes of society or the labels it wants to use to cage her into a mold.

Tell her that she is wonderfully unique and that her diagnosis isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s to be celebrated and freeing.
She’s not broken.
She’s not lesser than most.
She is a completely unique person that no one in the world can duplicate.

She may struggle at times when tasks pile up, but when she’s up against it she’ll rally and complete shit in a day.
People will praise her for what she produces, even though she’ll think they’re just being nice and she’ll still feel like she let people down.

But she didn’t.

The thing is, that right now…, she’s down and feeling off and broken. Not normal, or acceptable.

But she’s gorgeously beautiful and talented in ways that the world doesn’t recognize.

I’m happy she got the diagnosis and I’m sorry she feels as if it could possibly mean that she’s lesser than the rest of humanity.

Have you seen humanity lately???

Anyways…, with understanding comes compassion and her diagnosis gives her the place to start understanding herself and granting herself the compassion she’s owed herself for many years now.

Be well
Live happy
Keep trying,

Rob
