Good ADHD books?

My husband has ADHD so I have been trying to educate myself more on the disorder as of late. But I can't seem to find any actual trustworthy books to read on the disorder. When looking for books to read on such topics my favorite authors are experts/professionals who also have the disorder themselves. I feel these people have the best platform of knowledge to speak on the topic with both personal experience and education of latest research under their belt.

One of the top recommended books is "I"m not lazy stupid or crazy" which was written by 2 mental health professionals who also have ADHD. But it is nearly 20 years old and a lot of the information is very outdated.

I picked up a different book "Taking Charge of Adult ADHD" by a doctor who is known as an expert in ADHD. I get halfway through the book and find a disclaimer that this guy speaks for pharmaceutical companies. So....the entire book may as well be a drug advertisement to me. Of course it would state ADHD is purely biological and the best treatment is drugs. So....I don't trust it anymore.

I am eyeing a couple other books. One is "ADHD is Awesome" which is one of the newer popular books out on it. But it is just a couple that makes viral videos. The husband has ADHD. I think books written by those with the disorder are very valuable sources as well even if they do not have professional credentials, but still does not feel as trustworthy a source to me as an expert with the disorder.

The other book I am looking at is called "Scattered Minds" by Gabor Mate, who is an expert with ADHD. But his assertions on what ADHD is and it's causes are wildly different from anything I have learned about ADHD up until now. For example he says it is mainly environmental in cause and everything else I have read says genetics play a strong role not environment. So....I don't know if this is the best book to read on it if it is a totally different theory on ADHD than is generally accepted.

Does anyone have any good ADHD books they would recommend? Preferably with someone who is both an expert and has ADHD as the author? This is sadly difficult.

Trying to find books on schizoaffective disorder was worse though. 😮‍💨 It's sad how little information seems to be out there on certain disorders.

ADHD IS A SCAM. You will end up as ADHD reading books. There was no such thing as ADHD in the past.

Don't fall into the trap. It's a method to make one to police another.

@kittee I do not know if you meant to be cynical, but anyone who is matured and can weigh the pros and cons is a doctor. A medical practitioner is also given the title doctor doctorate, due to the way they analyse and treat. If Virus spreading is a disease, News spreading and becoming contagious is also a disease and a pandemic.

COVID was not a hoax but made a pandemic. I know how the medical world used the situation to make money by even suspecting just common ailments as Covid and prescribed the test. COVID test became a trillion dollar industry.

ADHD is a hoax being spread through news and rumors.
