Seriously thinking of taking ADHD meds...

Ritalin has helped my 77-year-old husband enormously.
It has reduced his symptoms of forgetfulness by 50%.
He's now able to have a conversation without meandering off topic
and no longer misses crucial bits of what others say.
He's now able to remember and keep agreements.
It's saved us from the brink of divorce and made it possible to rescue our marriage -- to create a good relationship. Of course, stuff still comes up, but far less often and much easier to fix.
However, Ritalin on it's own doesn't fix everything.
He's had a lifetime of being disorganised and making frequent mistakes. Some have been extremely costly, some near-lethal narrow-misses. He carries a profound level of shame from all this and gives himself a very hard time over something that he, til now, has had no control over.
His brain patterns and habits have evolved as coping strategies.
He finds it extremely difficult to shift to strategies like using lists, calendars and keeping things where he can find them.
He's a good man: honest, loving, gentle and non-violent.
In a hard world, these attributes are precious.
