Why does every second person think they have adhd

Everywhere I go every second person has adhd, if you go on reddit every post is about their adhd. I genuinely don’t believe this many people have broken brains. Some people are animated, spirited, have creative wild minds and are not suppose to be steady, focused, rote or rational. Also I think the younger generation have grown up online and have because of it have withering spans of attention. Really tired of every second person claiming adhd.

Three years ago, no one wanted Covid. In the last year, I have not heard one single person get a little cold and not attribute it to Covid. Even after false tests. Because Covid is all anything can think of.

When apps like TikTok isn’t busy creating ADHD, they’re fostering an entire cottage industry out of ADHD, autism and related issues right now. There are telehealth “manage-it-all” subscription programs available now. McDonald’s for your mental health. And for the record, ADHD and autism both have very specific and very well delineated sets of criteria for diagnosis. The way you place you hands, the kind of walk you have, forgetting someone’s name…none of theses are indicators of any mental condition. People need to learn the difference between unofficial traits and actual medical criteria.

And that’s why proper diagnosis is so important. A poster mentioned BPD and being rarer than it seems, and he’s right. All these conditions have varying degrees of prevalence but they all measure below the rate of 5% in the general population. I have a single 800-page textbook on my shelf. 800 pages of tiny type and that was our Introduction to Diagnosis. It’s not a knack you pick up on the Internet.

You wouldn’t get heart flutters and diagnose yourself with a cardia condition. You wouldn’t hear a sound in your car’s engine and diagnose it without a mechanic. Bad things could result. Don’t do it with mental health, either. This is the brain and mind we’re talking about. It’s kinda serious stuff if you’re affected by it.

Dig deeper. That still happens a lot.
