Raising a boy with ADHD

is hard, my heart hurts for him all the time because kids are mean. He gets picked on, teased and treated like crap by some kids. He just wants friends. 😢
MrsZero · 100+, F
I’m sorry. I feel your pain mama. 💔
It got better for us and I hope the same for your son. Give lots of hugs and praise and encouragement. It’s hard for him and I know it’s hard for you too. Hugs.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@MrsZero thank you, I appreciate that from one mama to another. ☺️
Viper · M
I have ADD, and for a while they thought I might have ADHD too, time management is horrible and making sure we get enough exercise as well.

Also, I seriously, seriously, seriously hated that they made me sit at the front of the class room as a kid, that was actually the worst for me, as I would hear noise behind me and I'd NEED to look, I don't the adults realized that I NEEDED to just look to see what that was... and would get in trouble for looking.

Where if I sat in the back, someone could drop a pen or something, I could quickly look and see what happened, teacher wouldn't notice that I looked and then I could quickly refocus as my curiosity of what was that, was solved as I needed to look and get that thought out of my head and focus back on the teacher.

But the system said put everyone with ADD up front, which was absolutely stupid in my mind, we all have different needs.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@Viper Geeze talk about setting you up!
The lack of knowledge and understanding in the school system is mind boggling, he’s had teachers that have definitely made things worse. I wish I could afford to just hire a tutor to teach him at home. 🤗
Viper · M
@Jeephikelove Yeah, well the idea was to move them up front, so the teachers could keep their attention better and notice them easier if they were distracted, and I think that definitely works for some and I might of needed that when very young... but like somewhere between 4th and 6th grade, back was definitely better for me.

It's just that they make suggestions based on the majority, but not everyone is in the majority... maybe not even the majority of the ADD or some just don't understand etc.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
My wife has very severe ADD and that graphic is 100% spot on. 100%.

@zerofuks2give but time helps a lot. It gets better. 😊 And like I said... Love and patience
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
@SW-User yes it does.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@SW-User 100%. ☺️
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
We had a helluva time with my boy when he was younger. But he’s 18 now, just graduated highschool and is the sweetest, most caring kid. He’ll be ok and so will you 🫂
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@zerofuks2give ya, he is a sweet, caring kid too, I can’t wait til he’s older and the people he deals with are more mature.
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
@Jeephikelove he’ll be ok as long as he has you
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@zerofuks2give thank you , that means a lot. ☺️

I totally support him, I have ADHD myself. At first you can't fathom the concept of friendship, then you realize you are like everybody else. Keep on keeping on
Whyme · 46-50, M
Im sure he will get a few friends but i know how a parent feels for a child
Lumberjack70 · 56-60, M
This is a hard road for you both. It takes courage from both of you to work through this but it sounds like you’re both doing your best. Being a parent hard, really hard, sometimes.
Berti33 · 36-40, F
I am knowing the perils and hardship of a mom, taking care of an ADHD child.
My son is mildly ADHD..
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@Berti33 it’s not fun!
Berti33 · 36-40, F
@Jeephikelove... Sure. Yet we have to ride boat over the rough sea.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
My son, myself, my daughter, my husband.

The house of Adhd.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Jeephikelove Relationships were difficult for my son but he has done better as he has gotten older. My daughter seems to be ok with relationships and this took a little work.

My husband...a whole other story.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@JaggedLittlePill oh, that’s promising, thank you.
🤗🤗
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Jeephikelove It is hard to watch them struggle. The best you can do is equip them with different ways to approach others, different scenarios to prepare so they may not feel awkward. ...i was always just as honest as possible. I didn't always understand them or myself.
Ironhand · 51-55, M
That's some bullshit. He'll get some good friends though.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@Ironhand ya he will eventually
SW-User
This is sad, i hope as he grows, he will find it easier to have friends.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
That is so sad.
☹️
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
Ya it is. @ProfessorPlum77
SW-User
how old is he
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@SW-User he’s 11
PirateMonkeyCabinet · 36-40, M
I feel for the kid, and for those of you supporting and caring for him. Children too can be so needlessly unfair and cruel to those who don't fit in. Childhood ain't always a walk in the park.

We don't choose ADHD, but I hope that with him having been given the diagnosis in an early part of life it gives him the chance to adapt. It won't be an easy road and I obviously don't know him. Still I hope that the diagnosis has unlocked a support system that will help and give him the means to eventually understand his diagnosis and learn to master it in life as best he can.

Many who have ADHD do seem to eventually figure out how to find and build friendships that work for them, and turn out well.

But it is sad and painful to see them go through what he's dealing with.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@PirateMonkeyCabinet thank you, ya he’s going to get some counselling starting on Monday. 🙂
PirateMonkeyCabinet · 36-40, M
@Jeephikelove That's great to hear. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he finds good chemistry with the counsellor(s) and that they help him find ways to cope and adapt. So long as he has people like you around him that care and hasn't given up on him I'm sure he'll find his way.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@PirateMonkeyCabinet thank you for saying that. ☺️
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I am sorry. My oldest has adhd too and kids can be so mean.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Jeephikelove the school here has been really good at punishing the little shits that act like that. It’s a learned behaviour from their parents.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@iamonfire696 it absolutely is! I actually have him pulled from school because this one does nothing, he’s been away from school since May 5. He’s getting counselling this summer and hopefully he can learn some new strategies to deal with this kind of stuff.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Jeephikelove I am so sorry. That’s absolutely awful. I hope he gets some good coping techniques.
