I Have a Child With Adhd

My son has recently been diagnosed with ADHD. He is 11 now, we've had issues from a very young age battling to get him the support he needs. He's a very intelligent boy but has a very nasty temper, his outbursts are becoming more and more difficult to manage.

I'm trying to research about the condition, there is so much to take in, I do feel like I'm drowning.

Great Britain's National Health Service always has some excellent advice.

@EugenieLaBorgia thank you. I've got to a stage where I'm burying my head in the sand at the moment.

I've got a meeting next week which I'm sure will make things a bit more clear.
@SW-User It will all work out fine, Johnny... stay strong...

@EugenieLaBorgia thankfully he has plenty of support from family and I have plenty of support, so greatful for that
@SW-User I'm by no means an expert on this subject, Johnny, but, in the past, I've found with older people that when they have any anger outbursts it was helpful just to put my arms around them quite tight and reassure them with comforting words or sounds.

@EugenieLaBorgia thank you. I'm my sons situation it's difficult, as my instinct is to do what you have said but in those situations he needs his space, problem is with that space he tends to destroy things /tries to hurt himself. In school they have a safe room for him so if he wants to punch walls etc he won't hurt himself.

Sorry if my post comes across as ungrateful it's not meant that way.
@SW-User Of course, it doesn't come off as ungrateful, Johnny. It must be extremely difficult for you.

@SW-User Make a behavior contract and reward him if he controls his temper daily with points and after a week you and him can have some fun time together. After each week he gets another reward with you. If he loses his temper he has to start over. Discuss with him the rewards he would like to get. Behavior contracts always work. He gets no rewards if he loses his temper. You should see immediate change.
