Do schizophrenic people get things twisted in their head?

Like you say something and then later they say "You said ____________" and it totally wasn't what you said

A person with schizophrenia is barley in this reality. You could say a sentence then they go home and argue with demons in their mind about it for hours and give it all a completly different meaning.
