Why do they get their charges diminished?

Mental illnesses can cause delusions and that can be what causes the crime to happen. The charges will be on grounds of diminished responsibility because the perpetrator will be deemed not to have been in their right mind and not fully responsible for their actions. It could actually mean that the perpetrator has a longer sentence and will be kept in a secure hospital rather than a prison, but doesn't necessarily mean they have a comfortable life while there.

@WelshLovely Makes me wonder what percentage of persons with a paraphilia has it for something dangerous or just something weird and embarrassing.
