I've discovered the root cause of my depression. And possibly yours . . .

I've discovered the root cause of my depression, and possibly yours. These are the top 10 things I've asked for (or been promised), and what I actually got instead. Post your own disappointments below in this thread, if you're not living the dream either
.
1. []Asked for: Affordable health care[/u] Actually got: 100,000 unused Ebola hazmat suits locked in a federal storage warehouse; a doubling of daily hospital room rates since Obamacare became law; perpetual hospital understaffing and occupancy at full capacity.

2. Asked for: Affordable, self driving BEVs. Actually got: The $120,000 electric GM Hummer; the $300,000 electric Cadillac “Celestique”; hundreds of thousands of Chevy Bolts recalled over imminent battery fires. (GM – I'd sell your stock short, if I had the money to do that)

3. Asked for: Peace on earth, our troops return home safely. Actually got: the $2 billion B2 stealth l bomber, which costs as much as an entire aircraft carrier. 11 separate aircraft carrier battle groups. 10 years of Afghanistan occupancy, then an ignominious rout as our troops were fired upon while attempting to withdraw under a negotiated agreement.

4. Asked for: A balanced federal budget, and spending only on the truly important things. Actually got: National debt which skyrocketed past $3 trillion - $300,000 for each American family. $600,000 each for the half of American families who actually owe/pay taxes.

5. Asked for: A household robot that understands spoken English and can help with multiple tasks for my ailing mother. Actually got: successively more expensive and complicated robotic vacuums, which now require that you download an app to your phone to make them work properly.

6. Asked for: Shatterproof cell phone screens. Actually got: a $2,000 folding cell phone where the screen is already weak and distorted in the middle. But it has 5 cameras!

7. Was promised: Cable 3D television, and/or 4K UHD channels. Actually got: 1,899 Comcast channels, half in low res, none in actual 4K. Upcharges for more than 200 premium channels. A dozen apps on my TV to stream stuff that isn't even available on Comcast. A $200 a month cable bill, monthly charges for streaming subscriptions.

8. Was promised: Immigration reform. Actually got: 20,000 illegal immigrants crossing the southern border each month, including large numbers of “unaccompanied minors/trafficked children"; drug cartel soldiers; ISIS terrorists impersonating Mexicans; people who've already been deported multiple times . . .

9. Was Promised: Clean, safe , affordable cold fusion generation of electricity. Actually got: Grid failure, brownouts, wildfires triggered by incessant failures of unmaintained, century old high voltage transmission wires, rapidly inflating electric bills.

10, Was promised: An end to political extremism and violence. Actually got: Obama's "politics of racial identity", followed by Trump's Utra nationalistic MAGA, followed by Bidens speech declaring that his political opponents are “an imminent threat to America's democracy" while flanked by Marines in full dress uniform. (If we can't see through this BS here, how can we hold ordinary Russians to a higher standard?)

That's a lot to ask for... perhaps the root cause of your depression (and mine) is asking for too much?

The question also arises - should all this be given to us simply because we are asking for it? That sounds a trifle entitled, imho.
What are we giving to receive all this?

Personally, the root cause of my depression is that my mediocrity IRL is a bitter pill to swallow when in my mind there has been no greater human being than me.

@chilloutab2 its a satire. sorry to cause any confusion.
chilloutab2 · 46-50, M
@SusanInFlorida It was well disguised then!!! Lol!!

@chilloutab2 i try not to bludgeon people

Perhaps ask/expect less? 🥴
@SusanInFlorida Sorry, you misquoted. It's an accusation.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@ElwoodBlues you ignore the context. it's a lament that life below, like life above, is unfair, and largely "unremediable". the play is hamlet - one man's tortured in ability to rectify what he sees as a great wrong.
@SusanInFlorida Nope. You're altering the quote to fit some other purpose - it's no longer Hamlet. Hamlet was criticizing the narrowmindedness of Horatio.

If ya wanna quote Shakespeare, then quote Shakespeare! Don't doctor the quote and pretend it's Shakespeare, that's for poseurs!

Thumbs up, those are the things I tell my friends and family anytime discussing politics. Both sides have failed us for the last 50 years.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@southbeachguy our mistake is expecting "either side" to keep its promises
Cold fusion is theoretically impossible. So you will continue to be disappointed.
