Would you consider someone applying for jobs they have zero experience in a type of mental delusion?

Especially coming from someone who abused drugs and mainly alcohol most of their life.
I got him a job as a manager and he quit in less than a month and it’s been 4 months now that he’s unemployed and has been applying for jobs (not vigorously unfortunately) but every job he’s applied for has been for stuff he has absolutely zero experience in the industry and thinks he can land a supervisor/manager role again. What can you assume from someone’s behavior like this? He said he knows he has a drinking problem but obviously doesn’t wanna get better. I said to him you need to get sober before even trying to look for a job again because you’re just gonna quit like the last one but I don’t feel he’s determined to quit. To make matters worse, I found out he also has a cocaine addiction he’s been hiding for months. He comes from a family with addiction in their genes. I’m sad to say this but I feel like he will die from his addictions.

Hope he gets help.
He doesn't have goals or perspective.
