Why some men tend to think liking their compliments means being attracted to them.

One man started chasing me without my consent just for liking his compliments. Even if i did compliment back, i wasn't attracted to him, he seemed so insecure so i complimented his qualities out of pity so he took it as a sign of attraction and started chasing even when i felt so gross and uncomfortable and told him to fk off , still he didn't FUCK OFF! He kept chasing me still saying i am enjoying his HARASSMENT !
