Im in that group as well.
Humor is my number one defense mechanism, my number one coping skill. Probably would have been gone a long time ago without it.

Me as well

That applies to me. I'm always laughing and trying to make people laugh.
It makes life a little easier and helps distract me from less pleasant things.

That’s where most comedy comes from. Pain. More accurately, not allowing the pain to win.

Not sure where my sense of humor comes from. My parents certainly didn't have much of one. Maybe it had its genesis in childhood misery.

@Rutterman If I could get my mom to laugh I got in less trouble, I remember that.

Nope. The old time stand-up comics on Ed Sullivan were HUGE influences along with the impressionists.
There were bigger name comedians who had their own TV shows like Jack Benny, Milton Berle, Burns & Allen, Bob Hope and his "specials", on and on.
The old movies with Chaplin, Lloyd, Keaton, Laurel & Hardy and even Our Gang (Little Rascals) were all enjoyed.
There was no defense mechanism/coping skills involved at all.
