Im thinking of trying to get off my antidepressants

Ive been on them for decades. I don't even know how much they help and i dont even know if i need them anymore.

Im starting to wonder if ive been dealing with side effects like high blood pressure, weight gain, and sexual stuff. So id like to see if those things go away after getting off them.

Anyone have any experience with this at all?

Im on effexor btw

Discuss it with your doctor first, and slowly reduce the strength.
Don't just stop because it can really have an impact, i was taking Citalopram for years, and tried doing it that way.
It really messed me up, i was back on them almost immediately.

I don't take them now and feel good.

I was on zoloft for 10+ years. Took me a year to get off of them. Cutting in half, then every other day.....untill i was able to get off with out terrible withdraw.
@Confined well done👍

Too many just stop their meds full stop....and then there are consequences.

Took sertraline for a while, for me personally I wouldn't take it again. It messed up my sex drive and made me have weird dreams. I dreamed I had a massive hole in my breast, it seemed so real that I had to look to prove that there wasn't anything wrong when I woke up.
I did.

Although i wasnt on them for long.
But i didn't like the side affects.

Ill try to be brief.... but its amazing what a change in what you eat can do for your mental health.

For me, it was better than antidepressants. It helped clear my mind, give it some space.

I ate clean. Whole natural foods.
Meat, veggies....lots of eggs, dairy and butter and bacon, (good fats are important as 50%+ of your brain is made of fat).

All this bullshit about low fat diets is slowly killing us.

No seed oils. Definitely no canola oil.

Olive oil, butter, ghee, animal fat, avacado & Cocoanut oil : all good.

Limit or eradicate processed foods....they are basically not nutritional.

Ive gotten off all medication and feel better than i have for YEARS!

The philosophy is....get rid of systemic inflammation.

Inflamed tissue doesn't work properly. (This goes for everything - your gut, your kidneys, your brain - everything).

Modern medicine is showing that toxins, pollutants and what we eat are a MASSIVE part of our lack of health.

I have so much to input on this topic.... but ill stop.

All you need to know is :

- Remove as much processed food as possible.
- get rid of sugar
- add more good fats for healthy tissue
- try and limit alcohol.
- eat as natural food as often as you can.

Itll take a few week/months as your body replaces cells.... but eventually you'll be amazed.

Maybe look into:
Keto if you really wanna ramp up health benefits.
@MrNightSky oh ..... thank you for reading it all.

Ive been doing nutritional research for about 3 years after i kind of fell into "food as medicine".

If you ever want to ask anything - just message me and ill see if i can help

Ive become very passionate about it.
Ive managed to deal with a few health issues by changing lifestyle and food habits.

Still finding out stuff.... but im kinda a research-aholic.

Goodluck on getting off your meds.

@OogieBoogie Awesome! Thanks! I will definitely write to you if I have any questions
@MrNightSky oh... one more thing.

Whatever you do....WEAN OFF YOUR MEDS SLOWLY -dont ever go cold turkey.

Going cold turkey can do chemical damage to your brain.

Go slow....take weeks, months are even better.

Make sure you do a very slow taper like cut your dose by no more than 10% each dose reduction. Otherwise you will get horrible withdrawal. Good luck
