that bullet could go anywhere

@Matt85 That's true. It was a contact weapon meant to be fired with the gun pressed against someone. They became a novelty more than a weapon due to their very low powered ammo, bulk, weight and awkwardness in handling. Several models of single barrel derringers were much preferred over the ring guns.
The classic Remington model 95 over and under barrel derringer was introduced in 1866 and became an instant hit with those needing a concealable handgun. Chambered in .41 short rimfire it had a distinct advantage over smaller caliber derringers and held two rounds instead of one which was a great advantage at the time. Once I start talking about guns it's hard to stop. Guns have always been my first love.

Is that a .22?
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@Nitedoc Guns have been a life-long fascination for me. It must be in my genes.

@Nitedoc How cool. I don't think it's from the 1800's. That is an actual bullet. In 1840 it would have been cap and ball.

@Musicman They started being made in the 1840's. I don't recall right now for how long they were manufactured. The cartridge beside this ring gun is a 4.5mm pinfire cartridge. It is a black powder cartridge. They were invented and manufactured around 1935 in France. The calibers commonly ranged from 2mm to 15mm. I have no idea why they made a 2mm cartridge!
