Yep, Henry Ford created the beginning of the system we have today which gave us shorter work days and two days off a week. Not out of kindness, but so that his hundreds of workers would have the time to go do stuff that they would need to buy one of his cars to go and do.

Of course in the mediaeval period, even a peasant had at a minimum about 80 days holiday per year, so it's all a matter of how long one's historical perspective is.
