What's the difference between a nurse practitioner and a doctor?

A Nurse Practitioner's role is similar to a Physician Assistant, except she is coming from an RN background and as additional training/education whereas a Physician Assistant usually does not. Both have more limited authority than a physician, particularly when it comes to prescribing drugs, and most commonly work under the supervision of an MD.
