New math or old math I suck at it.

so a vulgar fraction of what is 1/2 of 1/2 is [x(multiply) and 'of' mean the same in math]
1x1 on the top =1
2x2 on the bottom =4
So the answer would be 1/4
this is about the simplest equation

But if it was (more complicated) say 3/2 x 4/7
3x4 on top = 12
2x7 on the bottom =14
So the answer is 12/14
But that can be made easier by reducing it to the smallest numbers possible both of 12 & 14 can be divided by 2 (you have to be able to do the same to both numbers)
so 12/2 =6
& 14/2 = 7
so the answer is 12/14 reduced to 6/7 (which are both the same)

(Is it something like that?)

You know I really wish they would stop trying to make things easier by making these 25 step processes for simple math problems. When I went to school it was taught in a very straight forward way and then they would let you work it out on your own with help from the teacher if you needed it. In any case, I would imagine if you wanted more help with math someone on here would be more than willing to help out. The online community is (sometimes) nice like that. Hope you don't have too much trouble next year though!

I can't do a lot of things but proportions kill me. I can't get the box right.

@Myra I'm assuming that is one of the 'new' ways of doing proportions.
All I know re proportions are representing them as fractions
vulgar fractions 1/2
(decimal) fractions 0.5
percentages 50%

is that anything like you are doing?

Something like that except they make us draw a box and I always forget what goes where. Then we cross multiply and divide by the bottom left box.

I’ve tutored in math before, for college and school, why do you think math is such an issue for you?

I had math tutor. Even with the tutor I still got spanked on my bare bottom for bad grades in math.

weird but mathematics is my favourite subject. i believe you can do it much better.
