I find the best way to walk away from attachment to someone, whether its because of a brake up, a fight or even because they died, is to wish them happiness and peace of mind and then let them go. this perspective has helped me many times: death of my best friend, suicide of a good friend, death of my dog, break ups and people who have hurt me. I just wish them all well.
