Have you ever chosen to care for someone or something despite feeling resentment or dislike at first? Maybe it’s a pet you didn’t initially bond with.

Yes. When my abusive, narcissistic mother became very elderly and started down the long path to dementia, I took over her care. I think I did a good job...but it was painful.

A much better experience was when I rescued a cat from one of my clients. The client had Alzheimer's, and didn't even know that she had never taken the cat to the vet. When the client was being shipped off to a nursing home by her daughter-in-law, we all tried to find a home for the cat...but no home was found, so finally, I took the cat, and tried to give him to a friend of mine.

My friend took him for about a week, and it didn't work out. I found out that pets WERE allowed in my apartment building, and I finally took Oscar home with me. I REALLY didn't want him, as I am allergic to cats...but I accepted responsibility for him. He cost me over $3000 in vet bills.

During the two years that he lived with me before he passed away, I came to love him very, very much.

Yes it was a cat. I was never attached to any sort of animal. After my husband introduced me to several kitties, I decided not to avoid them.
