My third ex was not always a work-a-holic, but became one when he stopped smoking cigarettes AND became disabled. He re-trained to work with computers, and that was when he changed.
I discovered that work-a-holics are essentially abusing their partners through extreme neglect. They have chosen something...but it's not you.
Time to leave.

@sugarpie Ah. He was VERY handsome at one time, and a bad boy and a party animal. He was a little bit dangerous and nothing I had ever experienced before, and a LOT of fun. It was as though I built the solid stone castle of my life and dreams on shifting sand. All of that changed. He became physically disabled for about 5 years, with a weird disease that caused his hands and feet to swell up. He could no longer work at physical labor, in construction, and he often said that he was no longer a man.
It was as though he died, and what was left was no longer him. He retrained after 5 years of constant self pity and bad temper, but that was when the workaholic was born.

That happens. It's all right. It's all right to move on.
In relationships, especially, you need to avoid the sunk-cost fallacy.
