Do you find love to be transactional?

I think it is for most people, they just do not see it, nor do they want to admit it.

Would you like a receipt with that? 😏

Not in an actual loving relationship. However, in a loving relationship, support for one another, in whatever need they have, is a key ingredient. That's not transactional, that's supportive, and long as one person is taking advantage of the situation, but that's not loving, is it?

I do think it’s transactional, but not utilitarian. All connections are transactional and in a healthy connection it’s generally balanced. The author Stephen Covey came up with the metaphor that we each gave an emotional do bank account.

I don't feel that way personally at all, yet if you look at all the conditions/expectations most place on it and all the break ups and divorces I'd say yes.

Only when it falls apart it's hard not to see it that way...what you did for them, and they didn't do and vice versa

I've thought about this question a lot over the years, because it certainly seems like it is transactional for a lot of people.

I strongly disagree but I sometimes wonder if I'm deluding myself (if I'm one of those "don't see it" or "don't want to admit it" people).

Love is more than a mere transaction. Love should be unconditional...
