Is it better to alone or go for second best?

Personally, I would rather be alone than choose second best just so I have someone and not feel alone. It would be a little better than being alone, but if I didn't truly love this person and just for the sake of loneliness, I would probably end up separating from them if someone who I truly love comes along... I am not saying you should wait for a soul mate, but personally, in my experience, I wouldn't be with someone until it is the person I've always loved or more so rarely, someone else who I connect with on the same level or on an even better level comes along... May sound unrealistic but this is just what I think I personally rather. I don't think I would ever truly love someone else and be with them if it is not as much as I did with the first person I have ever loved or better... and I know I have to be honest with myself if this person is actually better or I'm only lying to myself.
