I’ll write a short horror story

I’m from the government and I’m here to help.

Well, if philanthropy alone could handle every need, for people who cannot help themselves, we would not need government assistance.

And if government paid competitive wages, they could attract better workers. And if Congress passed better laws, they could better do thier jobs.

But the real problem is bureaucracy, which impairs private companies, too. Just try to call the cable company for assistance. And here we are paying for it directly (although taxes pay for government).

Some things are just too big for the market to handle, and we need public goods not governed by profit. Could you imagine what life would be like if all roads were toll roads? All public elementary schools had tuition? If the police, firefighters, and troops sent us a bill in mail?

@JoyfulSilence It would be hell. But that’s where we’re heading. Folks like me are gonna be out of a job at the rate we’re going.

@PalteseMalconFunch

I hope you keep your job.

I work for the government, so I am always nervous.

Begin that with an unexpected knock at the door, and it’s spot on 😂

@Frostcloud You know I hoped to keep my gallows humor restricted to work but it’s creeping into my every day life 🙃
