Yesterday, Salmon Rushdie was stabbed up to fifteen times.

He was scheduled to give an address on "Free Speech." However, a group that is furious with him had offered a $3,000,000 bounty on him for a book he published about thirty years ago.
Besides the obvious, I was shocked by the Chautauqua Institution's cavalier attitude toward security for its famous and often controversial guests.

They seem to have adopted a philosophy of "Well, we won't stop them, but maybe we'll catch them."

@Mamapolo2016 Wow! They should have been prepared to supply security when the speaker has a three million bounty attached to him.
@ProfessorPlum77 You would think so.

It was a wrongful act, but expected. It's far better to promote the truth than to directly criticize a specific belief institution with a tendency for violence.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@MissPerfect "Tendency for violence." Are you referring to "the religion of p....?"
😳
MissPerfect · 22-25, F

ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP

ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@smiler2012 I know. There is a religious group that frowns upon what they consider to be blasphemy.
Miram · 31-35, F
They are insane. No amount of writing or talking to them helps with that.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@Miram I agree.
It took them 30 years? Wow. Didn’t know he was still alive
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@stratosranger He is, but he might lose vision in one eye because of the attack.
That’s the religion of peace huh? @ProfessorPlum77
