Eeyore's Birthday is one of my favourite stories of all time.

And we still take every opportunity to play Pooh Sticks, in case there is a stricken donkey in the river.

@SunshineGirl Yes! The burst balloon in and out of the empty 'hunny' pot 🤣🤣. Unforgettable.

James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George DuPree said to his mother, "Mother," he said, said he; "You must never go down to the end of town without consulting me!"

I have all the books in hardback and the poems.

Timeless classics!

Dad's voice is always the best🙂 I think I might have some of the original illustrations via Pinterest
IMO A.A. Milne wrote the best stories for children who will become adults. Magical life lessons,

Here's a bit of Winnie-The-Pooh trivia that you either may or may not have known...

The character, Winnie-The-Pooh was named after a real-life bear named Winnie, which during the time of the First World War, (then known as The Great War) was a mascot for a Canadian Armed Forces regiment stationed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, hence the name: "Winnie."

At one point, A man and his son were visiting the London Zoo, where they saw Winnie, and that inspired the man to write stories about him, which became "The Many Adventures of Winnie-The-Pooh."

That man was A.A. Milne.

@Sidewinder Thankyou! yes, I have heard that story but it's good to be reminded, and others here won't have known it.

Hey, don't destroy my childhood memories. After all, I am an American, so it is expected.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@Justmeraeagain Sorry. We all have our childhood memories and those books are actually very British (even English) and you know how attached we are to the familiar. The Americanisation was quite a shock to those brought up with the original. I hope you will enjoy your own memories.

By the way, I liked Disney's Mary Poppins because I hadn't reads the books.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@FreddieUK I am just kidding.
But, yes, we were brought up watching the movies.
But I did read the originals to the kids.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
I think mine was only ever my own voice in my head but I still have my copy of the book.

That is because it was a leaving present from my Infants' School form-teacher when Dad's work site was moved lock-stock and barrel from one county to another, forcing our and many other families to move about 100 miles.

I would not trust the Disney Corporation to create a version respectful to original book, author and illustrator, of a washing-machine operating-manual.
