Here's a bit of Winnie-The-Pooh trivia that you either may or may not have known...
The character, Winnie-The-Pooh was named after a real-life bear named Winnie, which during the time of the First World War, (then known as The Great War) was a mascot for a Canadian Armed Forces regiment stationed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, hence the name: "Winnie."
At one point, A man and his son were visiting the London Zoo, where they saw Winnie, and that inspired the man to write stories about him, which became "The Many Adventures of Winnie-The-Pooh."
That man was A.A. Milne.

I have three of E H Shepherd's pencil illustrations on the wall in my house.
Just lifted one down to inspect more closely:
The boy (CR) is pulling the upside-down bear downstairs by one arm.
Written in the margin by E H Shepherd signature - Bump Bump Bump
Lower down:
First Sketch
Winnie the Pooh
Frontispiece
And in the corner: Ch 1 W.T.P.
On the back of the frame:
ERNEST HOWARD SHEPHERD (1879-1976)
"Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump,"
Sketch for illustration to
"Winnie The Pooh"
(publ. 1926 Frontispiece, Chapter 1

@emmasfriend That's absolutely wonderful. The image you're talking about is very well-known but to have a print like that is fantastic. 😀

Eeyore's Birthday is one of my favourite stories of all time.
And we still take every opportunity to play Pooh Sticks, in case there is a stricken donkey in the river.

IMO A.A. Milne wrote the best stories for children who will become adults. Magical life lessons,

Hey, don't destroy my childhood memories. After all, I am an American, so it is expected.

@FreddieUK Thankyou for that extra information.
I think there are three Mary Poppins books but I've never encountered them.
Unfortunately for Dick van Dyke, I fear his sweep character may be among his best-known rather than best, roles.
I don't know what it is about these film companies - I appreciate turning a novel into a film is not easy and some compromises are probably necessary, but the committees of money-men seem to imagine they can write much better versions of the originals, and then to add further stories going further and further from the author's intentions.
I suppose it saves them the effort and imagination of devising their own stories.
It's been known in the book world too, even for children's literature. I recall the neice of the Rev. Awdrey publicly, and rightly, tearing into the ignorant pseuds-in-suits who'd bought the publishing rights to the Thomas The Tank-Engine series; for their additional stories that totally missed a vital aspect of all the originals, beyond the pure fantasy of machines with faces and voices.

I think mine was only ever my own voice in my head but I still have my copy of the book.
That is because it was a leaving present from my Infants' School form-teacher when Dad's work site was moved lock-stock and barrel from one county to another, forcing our and many other families to move about 100 miles.
I would not trust the Disney Corporation to create a version respectful to original book, author and illustrator, of a washing-machine operating-manual.
