Writing a book

What kinds of characters do you enjoy in books and media that keep you entertained?
Colonelmustardseed36-40
I like side characters with their own interesting stories or hints of backstories. They help the main characters along, but it鈥檚 not about them. Especially the ones with ambiguous loyalties. Whose side are they on anyway, huh? 馃え I continue reading to find out.
Rokan31-35, M
@Colonelmustardseed for sure may be some deceit's and betrayals
Musicman61-69, M
I like a bad ass black ops character. 馃檪馃檪馃檪
I enjoy a character that has a dangerous side but humorous too. I get bored if too serious
@SW-User my sunny charismatic disposition with a touch of clumsy sex appeal
@Rokan hey! It's Leia

I like when a weak main character becomes very strong in anime. Also, for some reason, in the anime "so I'm a spider, so what?" I loved the battling and leveling process. I was pissed when they added all that mushy extra otherworlder bullshit and kept everyone guessing if the main character was the demon lord or not. And stories should start when they begin, not when they get interesting. It's like watching a fucking flashback in reverse.

A little dark and mysterious with an edge. Yet highly smart. Interesting and surprising.

Hard core detectives I find intriguing as well.
Sharp, intelligent, humorous, relatable, fallible, someone I care about, can become invested in, and want to take the ride with.
Jeephikelove46-50, F
A murder/mystery with a love story weaved in.
CBarson51-55
Tragic heroes, antiheroes, the doomed

Its not so much the individual characters, but the play between them: the dynamic, wit, spontaneity and tension.
And having characters grow throughout the story.

And depth. Like a character might be a grumpy old man, but underneath he is soft and caring and wise.
You might have a spoilt princess who is arrogant and shallow - but only through experience does she become aware of others and awakens her compassion.

Stuff like that.

Its aspects like this that turns characters into real people. And makes a story become multidimensional.
Its not just what happens to which character(s), but how it changes them.

@OogieBoogie I wasn't aware it had an animated series
