Its not so much the individual characters, but the play between them: the dynamic, wit, spontaneity and tension.
And having characters grow throughout the story.
And depth. Like a character might be a grumpy old man, but underneath he is soft and caring and wise.
You might have a spoilt princess who is arrogant and shallow - but only through experience does she become aware of others and awakens her compassion.
Stuff like that.
Its aspects like this that turns characters into real people. And makes a story become multidimensional.
Its not just what happens to which character(s), but how it changes them.

@OogieBoogie Ever play DnD? before you can start the campaign you need to create the character. Traits, background story, gods they may worship, temperament, etc... You are going a step further than what I am asking for right now.

@Rokan yes, i do .
And yes, i understand that.
What im trying to portray is, is that you can have great characters, dynamic events, yet still a bland story.
It is the interplay between the characters that brings a story to life.
So contrast of character traits is important.
Have you seen Castlevania?

@OogieBoogie I know of the game from early SNES but I never really played it. One of my friends did a lot.
I get where you are coming from I am just not going to write the story until I have other variables figured out.

@Rokan i actually mean the animated series.
Its a very good example of good minimalistic character play.
