Two people have died on my block in the past few months. They start out with weed, and then more weed, and then it isn't enough, and they move to harder drugs, and then one day, they OD and they die. You think it is so innocent and everyone should do it, but it is a very very bad thing for Canada. They also lose their desire to work for a living and end up on the street. The fall of society is real.

@Pitchblue maybe Reefer Madness
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Axeroberts Maybe? 😖

Ynotisay · M
I think you're right about what it does to people.Before it became legal in my state it was about "scoring." Sometimes it was just a hassle and other times it was sketchy. But it was always illegal. No matter how common. And that was the part I had a hard time with. Didn't like feeling like a criminal.
But then I'd get high and forget all about that so...
Don't think there's much weight in weed leading to harder drugs though. Doesn't really work that way.
Ynotisay · M
@Axeroberts Haha? OK. That could mean I'm right or wrong. If I'm wrong, then YOU are the one who chose to use. You would have found it anyway. Personal choice. All on you. Not weed.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@Ynotisay i guess you can't even tell 🙄
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@Ynotisay the association in my experience of myself and others is with personality, age and trauma. Some people are more likely to pursue harder drugs because of those factors, I know plenty of people who smoked weed and tried things a couple times but got on with life fine.
Convivial · 26-30, F
The only problem is so many people are weak willed and will prefer being stoned to actually living life
@Convivial "Weak willed" is an entirely subjective moral judgment by you. It doesn't actually mean anything and contradicts your agreement that it is about physical and emotional health.
Gloomy · F
@Convivial You are free to disagree but not to judge based on your personal view on something that doesn't affect you

@Gloomy okie dokie

You might have to rethink that one...fentanyl is rife
chrisCA · M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow As well as corrections officers.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@revenant fentanyl is often associated with the prescription of opioids and they move on to heroin and other substitutes after the prescription runs out.

Not a lot going right in the UK atm, but we are good with the strict prescription measures on opioids and addictive prescription medication.
revenant · F
@Ryannnnnn ah yes it is very possible. The vast majority of weed users just stick to weed though and it is easier since cannabis is decriminalised now.
But fentanyl and hard drugs cases are on the rise though and I would say there are meta reasons for that. I do not know if they have done it yet but they are thinking of decriminalising small heroin possessions in British Columbia.
Mathers · 61-69
It is of course totally improved to the total misnomer. People who work in the field say that young people tend to go over weed and then switch to hard drugs as it is not enough. And the criminals have a field day
@basilfawlty89 From medical News Today.

The theory of weed as a gateway drug remains controversial. However, not all research supports this theory. Even studies suggesting people who use cannabis are more likely to use other drugs often fail to prove that cannabis directly leads to other drug use.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow well there we go then. We have actual data we can work with. In my case, my results were the same. I've never done anything harder than weed or alcohol.
@basilfawlty89 Basically from what I have read the best the pro "gateway drug" group can prove is correlation, not causation.
Weed is legal in the state where I live. Every 2 or 3 days the news show video of criminals busting into the stores...sometimes driving a car through the front door...stealing cash and weed. Luckily, legalizing it has reduced crime.

It's just an issue with a cash oriented business. Now it will be fun when these places are armed with trained personnel, and the security smokes a few of these mutherfookers.
Mikla · 61-69, F
I live in the US and it's legal here (for the most part) as well. I am sick with disease, and I smoke daily. I have a medical marijuana card yet I used to buy it off the street from one I knew. Now, we grow our own :)
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
We need more of that, drug laws are just the government providing organized and not so organized crime with a giant pot of money to increase crime. It has always been that way since we started outlawing drugs.
revenant · F
You would think you would see stoners about everywhere but frankly it is not the case. I think the taboo thing about weed being removed is a good thing still.
OMG, this is random but your profile pic brings back memories of EP
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
If it turns out anything like it is here in the states, problems; many are in Canada’s future.
Legalizing it in many states has only exacerbated the issue of marijuana availability and the markets for it.
@soar2newhighs As always no evidence to support any of your doom and gloom claims.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
Interesting how all the naysayers said the world would come crashing down in Canada if that happened, nothing so far. Sad that so many of our citizens are in prison for something so foolish as this...
I have never tried weed. Never got that opportunity. But alcohol was easily available so I drink. Trust me it should not be legal
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@littlepuppywantanewlife here's the problem with that. They tried banning alcohol and it didn't work. Prohibiting drugs of any kind just doesn't work. Most people without an AUD can drink without any danger.

I mean, using that logic, we should ban desserts, sugar, etc. because some people overeat and become obese.
@basilfawlty89 truth is everything should be moderated.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
Yup. I took other drugs because dealers have a network and ended up having access. If you get rid of the middlemen you aren't as likely to be exposed.
