Venting Post...beware. Angry Rant to follow. Asking for prayers.
I go to a local food pantry every single Friday and fill up my car with food for my neighbors who don't HAVE vehicles, and have no way of traveling to get extra food every month. The end of the month is particularly hard for some of them, because they receive food stamps, and at the last of the month they are OUT of food stamps, and nearly out of food.
I load up my car with every scrap of food that I can fit in there, drive home, and now I have a whole crowd of lady volunteers who help me to unload my car, trundle it all inside in carts, and lay all the bounty out on tables in the community room of our apartment building.
People come in and shop, and just take what they need. In an hour or so, either myself or the volunteers check on the tables, and we carry anything fresh or frozen to the refrigerator and freezer in the community room kitchen. The food is stored there, because not everyone can make it to shop in the morning. I heard today, that one woman tried to find food last Friday evening, sometime after 8 pm, and the refrigerator was completely empty.
Yesterday evening, there was a knock on my door, and one of my volunteers said she had been notified by a neighbor that all of our food was in the trash late Friday night.
My volunteer said that this same neighbor said that all of our fresh refrigerated food had also been thrown into the trash the previous Friday. My volunteer asked to be notified if it happened again so that she could take pictures of our food in the trash...and she did take pictures late last Friday night, and showed them to me on Sunday night.
In the trash there were ready made sandwiches, salads, 3 large baskets of fresh strawberries, bags of tangerines, oranges, chicken salad...you name it. Everything that hadn't been shopped out immediately was in trash bags in the bins.
I've tried to go through normal channels, notifying the office that we have someone throwing away perfectly good, fresh food...AND canned unexpired food...and I am ignored. My calls are not returned.
Today, I called maintenance directly, because I am told that maintenance is in charge of viewing security tapes if there is theft, for example, and asked to have them view the tape on Friday from 7 pm to midnight. I am hoping that by narrowing down the time of the vandalism, they will actually be able to find out for sure who is doing this. I "know" who it is, but she is so sneaky I have no proof.
I wrote the manager of the building a three page letter, hoping to go directly to the top. I asked for a viewing of Friday nights security tape, and I asked her to send a letter round to ALL the residents, so that no one resident can be accused, telling them to stop throwing away food that is much needed by our community.
I explained to her that I had considered drafting a petition and having everyone sign it, but that I didn't want to escalate what is already an angry situation.
PLEASE say a prayer for all of us living here...especially for the enemy who is performing this evil deed every week against ALL of her neighbors.
PLEASE pray for us that management will finally do something about this vandal.
