I relate my self worth to my university work

I spent this weekend being really productive, spending time with my close friends, partner, cleaning the house and attending a special course but I didn't do any specific uni work (studying or preparing for classes) and now I can't shake off the feeling of guilt and worthlessness. It is always like that and it's mostly hard for me to enjoy days when I'm not drowned in work.

I just went through the realisation that I was basically torturing myself with hyper-productivity every day and ruining my life.

You have to unlearn the toxicity of expectation that's ingrained in schools, society and online self improvement culture.

You're not lesser or better if you have or don't have ambitions, you're not in a race with others, you don't need to justify anything to anyone, society teaches you to do that.

I just handed in a "bad" assignment, I'd had flu in the week I was gonna finish it, do I care? No, it's just a mark 🤷 not worth stress or self hate, I do well usually.

@Ryannnnnn you are absolutely right! i felt like i was on a verge of a burn out this weekend so today i skipped uni classes and a mid term and i'm just relaxing now. it is just a mark and i also do well usually, just like you. i do like self improvement but everything that's too much isn't good, right? i hope you get well soon!

You are entitled to a life outside uni. Balance is important.

@Maturebate thank you, i keep trying to tell that to myself. i'll try harder:)

Rolling up your sleeves when you have to (college being one of those times) is great, and is important for success. But try not to devalue yourself if you aren't perfect. If you need to take time away for your own sanity, do it. Realistically, the certificate is far more important than a perfect GPA, once you get out there.

@throughTheMotions yes! today i actually took a day off just to relax and rest up a little. thank you for your comment!:)

I found some of the best students ' had a life.' I was more of a swot ...and that did not get me all that far.

@Maturebate oh well that kinda slapped me in the face.. thank you! i find my uni work to be very important because i really want to make it in my career and i tend to get lost in it and go really hard on myself. push myself to do more and more.
i hope you are enjoying your life and how its turning out though!

@palmtree not intended that way . I meant the all rounders did better than me.
You’re not going to care about your coursework on your deathbed, go deeper. Life is for living.

Those days are important to recharge your creativity and intellectual energy

Start by learning to cook great food for yourself, it's something you can do in between work and maybe it will teach you to enjoy treating yourself a bit
palmtree · 22-25, F
@MartinTheFirst that's a great advice! i cooked for myself today after a long time of not doing so and it actually felt nice. i'll try to do more of that:)
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@palmtree I try to do it at least 5 times a week 🥰

@MartinTheFirst i'm happy for you, keep it up!! <3
