Hooray, academic expectations! 🤢

I graduated senior high without honors because I slacked offf and missed the cutoff by one point in one subject. So I thought, "Hey that's okay, I'll just do better in college" and with that I internalized the goal to becoming a cum laude (or even better) in bs architecture.
But then, my parents one day jokingly remarked "It would be nice if you graduated with honors."
I know by their tone that they were just kidding but I also knew they were half serious and meant it.

So now instead of wanting to work hard and get that sweet sweet award because I wanted to out of my own will and volition and nobody forced me but this is something I WANTED, now it's like I HAVE TO now.
Which sucks when it comes to motivation because now I have to carry the weight of their expectations yet again.

Who’s paying your way? All you are required to do is eat, sleep, and study in the environment that has been provided for you. If you need a tutor speak up and ask for one. If you find yourself unable to concentrate and end up sleeping or goofing off all afternoon, get a part time job for a few hours every day. Rest and clear your mind with the mundane and make a few extra bucks for spending money. I did that, graduated with honors from undergrad and post grad. Regardless of whether or not you get a 3.5 or above as your final GPA...You must of course graduate and master the material. Certainly, grades matter most on your resume when you begin applying for work. Stop stressing about things you can not immediately change or affect. Narrow your concentration down to the week you currently find yourself in. Focus on its details and nothing else. When the next week comes, do the same. Micromanage every waking moment. It is those well managed weeks, that when stacked together, equal a semester. Do not waste your precious time worrying about the future. While you are in school its only about the now. Do that and you will be less stressed and more focused.

Either you’re motivated or you’re not. Don’t blame your parents. Your success starts now, so you might as well realize it now and get after it.
If you do your best and are true to yourself you can walk with your head up high.

Your happiness should never be put in someone else’s hands or you will always be a slave,
Try for it .. but do it for you, for your future. Strive for it for what the achievement can do in helping open more doors in your job search. Just remember .. the world will not end if you fall short.
Relatable! I don't think you are obligated by any means. You can even confront your parents about how much they're placing pressure on you.
There’s more to life than left brain academic achievement and doing what you’re told.
