First of all: you don't owe her anything. A friendship is both give and take, not just take, as she seems to do.

In my opinion, she seems too self absorbed and/or ignorant to know what depression really is, and the willpower it takes for someone to tell anyone, be it to ask for help or explain certain personality traits/behaviors.

You deserve better.

@Clodagh I've been exactly where you are. You're better off without, trust me.

@SW-User “no one is loved by everyone”

Wise words

And like you pointed out… if it seems it, they are a fake (trying to pander to whoever is around).

@Clodagh I hope you're able to figure stuff out. I'm not claiming to be an expert in human behavior, far from it, but in this case I speak from experience.

maybe shes tired of it. maybe shes suggesting you take up some activities to ease your depression? i mean, sure she didnt sound exactly sympathetic but at the same time we dont know the whole picture

@Penny reiki is amazing … but be careful downplaying her shit. We don’t know the full story ya know?

Also… I still struggle with depressive episodes off and on. Some of them were absolutely debilitating, and the only thing that could help me climb up and out was getting back on a med for it.

@WaryWitchWandering well, im not a fan of psych meds for depression personally. and i do have a lot of experience with them so i wouldnt recommend them personally. but to each their own
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
@Penny everyone is different, and I totally get that

I just want OP to feel heard and maybe ask for help if she needs it (professionals/parent/trusted person)

It’s hard to say what to make of this. People use the term depressed so nonchalantly these days. They may not realize you are referring to being legitimately depressed. You also mentioned then putting up with you for so long? i’m not sure if that’s low self-esteem talking or that you’ve been struggling with mental health or drama for a long time. if you’ve had a lot of issues for a long time then there is the possibility they’re feeling burnt on trying to be supportive. Even if that isn’t the case, you’re not getting the support you need from this person. It is definitely time to make some new friends who are better at emotional support. Doesn’t necessarily mean you have to drop this friend though. They’re just not a good fit for what you need. Don’t set yourself up for feeling even worse by going again and again to somebody who either can’t or won’t give you what you need. If you’re feeling too depressed to make new friends then you gotta connect with a good mental health counselor who can help you to start addressing why you’ve been depressed. 💜
Sounds like she doesn't care about you and only wants to talk about herself. I understand someone doesn't know what to say to such a statement, but then say that. She didn't even acknowledge you said anything at all. You don't need people like that in your life.

Some people just don’t understand depression at all…. They don’t know what to do or say.

I’m sorry ❤️

Is there anyone else you could reach out to? I hope you are able to figure out something to take your mind off things

Oh gosh! I really feel for you! Pretty much all my friends stopped bothering with me so I know how you feel.
