I neeeeed to vent

Im 28 years old.
I work 80 plus hours a week to have what i do.
I never have gotten a handout i work not wait for others to give me a handout.
Im proud to be 28 own my own home and car.
It amazes me how many people complain about not having this or that.
I have no cable or dish tv just antenna and im happy that way.
If people would try a bit to cut cost they wouldnt need a handout.
Stop thinking you are entitled to handouts. Get off your butt and work. (Unless disabled).
This come from a peraon that works two plus jobs and tired of aupporting the lazy people.
Vent over have a good night all

Work ethic certainly may apply to some part of the people in the 20-40 age bracket who are struggling to make ends meet. But it's not the whole story. Can we agree that everyone needs a place to live. We can perhaps get by without a cat, but basic shelter can't be cut.

The cost of a home has gone up at a rate of 4x compare to wages. The cost of rent at a 2x rate. This means that just to secure shelter, a person now must pay a higher potion of what they earn into that than was needed in the past.

It used to be that simply working any job that wasn't service or retail for 40 hours a week and picking up the odd overtime put you in the lower middle class. That's no longer the case. Here is data.

The same applies to the cost of food, transportation, and other costs. Work that used to provide the basics and some spending money now provides enough to just get by.

Work is always a value proposition. Time for money and money for things that are needed and then for things that are wanted. That value calculation has changed a great deal over the last four generations.

You’re amazing, society needs a lot more with the drive to do for themselves!!
Alexia · 26-30, F
@Quimliqer i just do what i can. Im nothing special. My parents helped me be this way and im thankful for that.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@Quimliqer and she's a woman

We also need to define the term "disabled" because lazy people abuse the shit out of it. Generalized anxiety is no excuse to be "disabled" and not work. And many physically disabled people can work a desk job. There are also some people using bipolarity, among other disorders to get out of work as well.
Granted you'd never catch me working 80 hours a week, there is no work life balance there! I cap myself at 50 (day job and side hustle).

The "lazy" poor people are not your enemy.
Take a quick look at the profit numbers and margins of the corporations that own the businesses you work (slave just under 50% of your life away to) for...

There are 168 hours in a week.
You worked 80 of them.
What's your commute time ?
How many hours do you sleep ?
What's left over for hours ?
HikingMan · 51-55, M
If you sleep 6 hours a day, that's another 42 hours a week.
If your commute is only a half hour each way to 2 separate jobs that's another 14 hours.

That's 136 hours out of 168 which leaves exactly = 32 hours per week to do what you wish, provided you have no other responsibilities.

Like food shopping, raising children, or tending to familial or relationship commitments....
HikingMan · 51-55, M
Are you venting or nominating yourself as the Gold Standard of modern-day society...?

Asking for my poor lazy friends...
😎

Find some time for fun too.
I don't think complaining about not having things means we expect to just be handed things. It's more like venting like you did here. It's hard to afford what we want these days.
Alexia · 26-30, F
@Nadie if you save for things it will happen

So like 12 hour shifts every day? Admirable. What do you do for work?
Tres13 · 51-55, M
Student loan ?
Alexia · 26-30, F

DDonde · 31-35, M
What kind of work hours are those?
Alexia · 26-30, F
@DDonde its okay when thats all i have known lol
DDonde · 31-35, M
@Alexia I found I really had no time for anything besides work while I was in the middle of it. It was wake up, drive to work. Do work. Come home and sleep and that was pretty much it every day I was doing it.
Alexia · 26-30, F
@DDonde about same here. Probably why im single but its all good
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I think it’s great if it works for you to work 80 hours a week but just because someone only works 40 hours a week doesn’t mean they are looking for handouts. 🤷🏼‍♀️.

You are replaceable in your jobs. So when you suffer burn out just remember that.
Lilnonames · F
Yes im that way as well. I very rarely complain. I work hard for all i got as well. Most stuff in my house i got fir free as it was in trash. I fix it and use it
Alexia · 26-30, F
