How do you help someone in a tough situation without pushing them too hard?

I think I see what they need, and I think maybe they do too, but the steps are so painful to take.

Give them options of what they're comfortable with and slowly have them go out of their comfort zone.

It depends what the situation is of course.

You can’t. You can give them suggestions if they ask and that’s all. The rest is up to them to decide what they’ll do
