Who do you think is/ was the most influential person

Why? What have they done to shape your life?

There's one I have to mention as he's on here.

June 2014. My friend is concerned about my drinking and says "You should call this guy". She'd heard him at something about alcoholism where she worked.

I called him. He came to my old flat. I was drinking gin while he talked and the woman he'd brought along occasionally said something.

At some point he says "I'd drink too numb any emotion. Good or bad. Actually, especially the good as I didn't deserve them. If I felt successful I had to sabotage it as I didn't have a right to that."

I nearly dropped my drink. That could have been exactly me talking. I put that glass down and asked him how long he'd been sober. 10 years. I couldn't go 10 hours!

I poured all alchololic drink in the flat down the drain there and then. Next night I went to my first AA meeting with him. He was my sponsor for a long time. I'd never have got sober without him.
My 2nd oldest Brother. He helped kick start my career bringing me into his company as an intern and then going full time after I graduated with my first degree.

@BrewCityBarfly that's really nice to have a close family member make such an impact on your life.

Too many to list. My granddad was a completely chill, funny and hardworking man who'd seen battle at Normandy and all throughout Europe. He was raised as poor mountain folk and earned everything he and his large family had.

My father was one of the smartest and hardest working men I've ever known. Completely dedicated to his family and his word. He was one of the most talented carpenters I've known and a wizard on electrical and electronic controls.

I stand on the shoulders of giants, so, it's nearly impossible to pick the most influential, but those are a couple of the top.

My mom. I do what I can to NOT become her.

@BarbossasHusband ah okay so she is influential in the sense that she has taught you what NOT to do.

my father.
Taught me everything important that anyone should really know as far as i am concerned. He also showed me what being the perfect father is and what it means to be a man.
He has suffered more than anyone i have ever known and nothing seems to slow him down. Truly a huge influence in my life.

There's a writer.. Psychologist, Walter Riso that helped me to understand better relationships.. People. But wouldn't say he's the most influential person.. I don't think I have one.
What about you
