Moment In Paradise
This is a unique experience for me. In 2009, I had just called off my engagement. It wasn't a great time. Still, my bandmate was in a relationship with a great woman, Kristin, and she and I were friendly based on our brief chats at gigs. I can't recall who came up with the idea, but the concept was to bring her up to a gig to surprise my bandmate. The venue was 90 minutes away.
As it turned out, my college was having a class reunion, too, and it was on the way to the gig! Oh, did I tell you she could be actress Brie Larson's body double? She said yes to going to the reunion, held at a beautiful facility overlooking the Hudson River.
So, I walk in with her as my date:
That's Brie, not Kristin. But boy is it close.
Not bad, right? I didn't bother explaining that Kristin was my "pal", just enjoyed the guys' eyes lighting up. And the women, too.
I knew she was my buddy's girlfriend, but that didn't NOT make her a smokeshow. At one point, we went out on the deck. It was right as the sun went down. Kristin leaned on the railing, looking out at the expanse--huge river, lights from boats, the horizon up the coast, etc., her 5' 9" frame absolutely rocking her dark blue dress and curly blonde hair.
Should I even mention she was a former gymnast? Nah.
I knew we'd never be together, but I'll probably never forget that time. It was just a moment in paradise. I needed it. And there were problems with her and my friend, so she probably needed it, too. Years later, she's married (to another guy) with a kid, I'm engaged, and we have never spoken of this night since.
