I heard a story from a friend of mine who said her aunt said she wanted to be put in a mausoleum over burial because she didn't like the cold.

They are hiring new graduates for sales here at a local funeral home.

@averageguy They are probably raising their prices because since Covid more people have discovered the option of graveside services, it’s not too expensive and it gets people who care together for the ceremony without a lot of fuss. I have noticed the trend since then.

@averageguy It’s just a summer job I think so the new graduates can earn some spending money when they start college. There are some places that offer these jobs with them in mind.

There's pay in advance schemes in the UK, it pays to think ahead I suppose.

@senghenydd My aunt had that plan, then she got dementia due to being a diabetic and forgot to make payments. And that was after making payments for several years. I don’t think they ever refunded her either. She had a funeral but someone paid for it.

So many elderly don’t have life insurance or a savings enough to pay for a funeral or their spouses don’t have good credit.

@cherokeepatti I haven't joined any scheme however I believe in the UK we pay the full amount in advance when joining the scheme, there's no problem then.

A neighbour has paid in advance to be cremated only problem he's changed his mind and now wishes to be buried in a churchyard, no doubt he'll contact the company who he's paid to get things changed.

There is no such thing as a cheap funeral lots of the obituaries include you can make donations to the family to help cover their expenses.

Really, when you get right down to it...funeral expenses are for the living. The dead do not care, they have moved on. The state will dispose of the body by cremation usually if no one claims it, or donate them to medical schools to be used for study then cremated.

@TexChik I won’t have a funeral and neither will Ray. We put it in a living will. There is no sense in burdening others with it. We can grieve without it and anyone who is a true friend or loved one will offer condolences on their own.
