Why do we always say RIP to the dead?

They’re not resting, they’re dead!

@Birdbox1986 for those who believe…

Rest in peace doesn’t literally mean they’re resting. It’s a way of wishing that the person’s soul may be at peace after death. Death isn’t the end of the journey it’s the beginning of the real one. What comes after is what truly matters Heaven or Hell depending on how we lived our lives.

@Ann99 I guess, but many don’t believe in postmortem life
Iwishididit · 41-45, M
Sounds like rest to me
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I think it was invented by superstitious people who were afraid of ghosts or "ghosts" like the deceased appearing in their dreams, so they say the mantra in hope the dead would leave them be.

I think its an old euphemism.

Maybe its easier for some to accept if they think of it as resting.
