Sure thing. I'm happy that your son wasn't traveling with him at the time, but since they were best friends, how did you son come to avoid being with him on New Year's Eve?

@swirlie my sons friend was coming home from work.

Jake, my son, said his bud had a very bad habit of speeding and that was probably what killed him.

...and judging by your next post, your son's friend wasn't driving the car at the time, right?

@swirlie just a really bad scene. Jake got some sort of notification on his phone. Saw the ping had come from near his friends house. When Jake called the friend and he didn’t pick up, he called the boys mom. She was sobbing and told Jake his friend had passed. Very sad. 22 yrs old and gone. 😥

I have that same notification on my phone as well. It was generated by Jake's friend's cellphone which can differentiate the difference between a sudden deceleration and a sudden collision. The ping is then sent out automatically to EMS, along with the exact geographical location of the event. Depending on how the cellphone was set up, it would notify others like Jake automatically.

@swirlie this kid was one of the nicest and kindest people you could ever meet. I told Jake that he was blessed to have ever had a friend like that. Cherish his other friends as well. Because true friends like that are hard to come by.

You're 100% right about that. How did the people in the other vehicle make out from that collision?

@swirlie it was a tree. hit it at a pretty high speed. His friend was a good dude, but, he dealt with some inner demons and he dealt with them in some unfortunate ways. Feel so bad for his parents. As a parent thats definitely my worst fear is to get that phone call. I feel bad that I ever put my parents through so much worry because I was not exactly the ideal child. I did alot of dumb shit that put myself in jeopardy. And now I go thru that worry myself.

@MayorOfCrushtown
So then, you're suggesting that this collision with a tree was a self-inflicted suicide by Jake's friend?

@swirlie nah, I think it was him being reckless. He had a history of reckless driving. Also had a history of heavy drinking. Jake told me that he had to take his friends keys a couple of times and hid them. Don’t know if alcohol was at play or not. But chances are speeding and reckless driving were.

.. but before this last post of your's above, you said:
Yet now in your response to my questioning this collision, you blow off that previous statement you made to me and now say the collision was him being reckless and not suicidal. This story of your's appears to be changing with each passing post, Mayor!
Why did you make that quoted statement above if you now say that Jake's deceased friend had a history of reckless driving, which of course you don't know first-hand if that's true or not, other than from the comments that Jake your son had previously made to you?
