Thankfully , that’s a microscopic number compared to railway deaths in India (20k annually, which is about 60 EVERY DAY)

@AthrillatheHunt i knew it was a high number, didnt think it was as high as that

@AthrillatheHunt That's awful. I wonder why it's so bad.
SomeMichGuy · M
@Longpatrol Likely because of riding on the top, among other things.

Where are you getting that?
From https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_railway_accidents_and_incidents_in_India
That's MUCH less than 20k/year.
The 2023 report at https://www.drishtiias.com/daily-updates/daily-news-editorials/railway-accidents-in-india-causes-and-safety-measures details improvements and needs which feed into this.

As per the Ministry of Railways, there have been more than 38,500 railway accidents from 1961 to 2019.[2] In 2019–20, the Indian Railways reported zero passenger deaths due to accidents for the first time in its history.[3] At least 313 people died in 40 train accidents in 2023–24 and 748 people have died in 638 train accidents in the previous ten years.[4]
That's MUCH less than 20k/year.

@SomeMichGuy i believe the ststistic....although i admit i haven't fact checked it, is from not deaths caused by rail accidents but of lives lost on the railways - people falling from trains or dying on the tracks

@BabyLonia
I would consider those to be railway-related accidents.
The report which I referenced says that ~16% of deaths are due to "unmanned" level crossings:

The report which I referenced says that ~16% of deaths are due to "unmanned" level crossings:
Unmanned level crossings (UMLCs):UMLCs are places where railway tracks crossroads without any barriers or signals to regulate traffic.
• UMLCs pose a high risk of accidents as vehicles or pedestrians may not notice the approaching train or may try to cross the track when the train is near.
▪ In 2018-19, UMLCs accounted for 16% of all train accidents in India.
• The railways have eliminated all the unmanned level crossings (UMLCs) on broad gauge routes, but there are still many manned level crossings (MLCs) that pose a risk of accidents.

@SomeMichGuy I made it up. Nah dude Google India train deaths annually. It’s no secret how dangerous rail travel is on the sub continent .
