I’d like to hope it will change things for the better, especially for women in Iran, but it likely won’t.

@NativePortlander1970 Two Ayatollahs have died in the wreck, maybe more. They are saying now that all of the top government officials have died.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Yeah remember the crackdown on young women who refused to wear the hijab and some of them died as a result? Schoolgirls poisoned at their school?
@cherokeepatti he executed thousands of Iranian men for protesting back in the day..
Hence the moniker..

I saw some of the earlier newsreels and ignoring the "who" for a moment I reminded myself again that such weather is far-far too marginal and unsafe for anything but strict IFR (instrument flight rule) flights and procedures. The weather and set-up and news reports looked and sounded like a repeat of the Coby Bryant crash.

In ground hugging fog or indefinite ceilings, you can't just go looking for the ground without risking that the ground will find you instead. Flying in the hills or just in the countryside isn't like flying towards or even around an airport environment where there are dozens of reliable aids to help the pilot know exactly where he is and what's below if he/she goes lower. Runway lights, sequencing approach lights, radar assist, ILS, marker beacons, etc., etc. all make it a very different than flying over non-airport places. Airports don't have trees or buildings or other obstacles near runway, and even if the pilot misjudges, there is usually overrun space beyond the runways to compensate for mistakes.

In the US, the Coby Bryant crash should have forced a rule change for both helicopters and fixed-wing for how bad is too bad for aircraft flying without an instrument flight plan.

Honestly, good riddance. Iran is more responsible than any other party for derailing every effort at peace in the Middle East, which has done profound harm to both Israelis and Palestinians. Never mind the way in which the country treats its own citizens.

I know you don't like CNN yet their article has something important. Please see the underlined areas..

The Iranian Constitution mandates that in the case of the death of the president, the first vice president shall assume, with the approval of the Supreme Leader, the powers and functions of the president.

First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber would assume the role if the current president dies and Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei approves. Officials said earlier that Mokhber was en route to the area where the president's helicopter went down.

Additionally, the constitution mandates the three heads of the branches of government — the vice president, speaker of the parliament and the head of the judiciary — must arrange for an election to choose a new leader within 50 days of the vice president assuming the role of acting president.

Keep in mind: Iran's supreme leader serves as the final arbiter of domestic and foreign affairs in the Islamic Republic, dwarfing the powers of the country's president.

Unlike his predecessor, the moderate former President Hassan Rouhani, Raisi has fostered a close alliance with Khamenei. Many Iranians believe Raisi is being groomed to be elevated to the supreme leadership.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is still alive and so is First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber!

No change us going to happen because of that.

Scott Adams often mentions, every thing seems to have an entertaining outcome.
Israel said they were going to take out their leadership. Did Israel do it or is this just an amazing coincidence?
