A girl from my training class died yesterday. We found out today.

She is on my new team.

She died from a head-on collision Sunday morning.

It makes me sad.

I'll always remember her.
In training, the teachers said "Let's go around and name a time you went through something that did not turn out to be a good thing." Basically, can you name an experience that didn't make you think afterward, "I see the positivity."

She was the only one who spoke up.

I thought about my mom dying, of course. But, I didn't want to discuss it. I'm sure lots of people thought of things they can't make sense of. She spoke up. She said she went through a traumatic experience at work. People died in front of her, and she ran. She said, "If you can make sense out of that... whatever. It was traumatic. The most traumatic experience I've ever been through."

I always liked her after that. I remember her looking me in my eye as she was telling the story. I was listening intently as everyone else had read it on the news. I hadn't heard about it. So, I gave her my attention.

Then, she dies. Maybe everyone else had already heard that on the news, too.

It sounds like she needed to be heard. She was possibly struggling with survivor guilt. If she was focusing on you, she knew she was being heard by at least one person and that was probably enough for her not to feel so alone in that thought. RIP to her and I hope you're doing okay as can be x
