I grew up on Christmas Island, Indian Ocean, where 'coconut' land crabs are endemic, and can confirm that they are not harmful to a living human (unless by removing a finger in their claws or accidentally using same to puncture a car tire), though they are omnivores (for example occasionally eating the more plentiful red crabs) and so would doubtless partake of human carrion especially once decomposed. For that matter, Ms Earhart's body would also have been decomposed by the smallest sea crabs.
